Did you know you can make a video CV to wow hiring managers?
If you are looking for cut-through in the competitive job market, you could try your hand at making a showreel video.
It’s a similar concept to the ‘demo reel’ or ‘sizzle reel’ that actors create to share some short clips of their previous work.
Create a one-minute overview featuring you talking about your career highlights, and goals.
Video resumes do a great job of helping you stand out from the crowd and capture attention.
Check out these three unique examples.
The Robert De Niro clip from the film, ‘The Intern’.
This is proof that anyone can make a video resume.
These days, you don’t even need a camera.
Your iPhone and a free video editing tool such as iMovie or CapCut will work just fine.
Why this works: Talking head videos are taking over social media. Direct-to-camera videos are arguably the hardest videos to publish as they require you to be vulnerable and let your guard down and speak from the heart. There’s not much chance to edit out your mistakes either, which means viewers see the real, authentic you. This builds trust, authority, and personal connection.

Graeme Anthony’s Video CV Resume introduction
Anthony, in his ‘natural habitat’ introduces himself, then proceeds to send you follow up videos showing his intro, about me, portfolio, timeline and contact details.
The original video has had over 714,000 views, so it’s hit a nerve.
Why this works: This is Graeme plain and simple. His bravery to show up as himself is to be commended. He displays some sharp tech skills when he embeds his hyperlinks using annotations and a sense of humour when he shows up in three different outfits.

Mark Leruste’s Best Video CV Ever!
This might be my favourite video resume ever.
This is a lot of work but it definitely catches attention.
Why it works: Mark is a savvy marketing promoter with savvy tech skills and a funny bone to boot! How could anyone resist? Definitely not the Movember Foundation, a global men’s health charity, who employed him two weeks after this video resume was launched into the world. What a legend.
